The S-Anon World Service Office (WSO) offers a list of Long Distance Sponsors and Phone Support as a courtesy resource to inquirers, newcomers, and S-Anon members limited in their ability to connect with other members locally. Submit a completed form below.
What is expected of Long Distance Sponsors and Phone Support?
Although the WSO offers resources such as meeting information and suggested S-Anon Literature, Tradition Eight prohibits WSO staff from doing Twelve Step work while they are working for pay, such as listening to people’s stories and sharing their own experience, strength, and hope. S-Anon members can be uniquely helpful in these situations.
Many times, inquirers or newcomers may know little or nothing about the S-Anon program, are often overwhelmed, feeling the full impact of someone else’s sexual addiction. Those who serve as Phone Support are S-Anon members who are available to listen to people’s stories, share personal experience, strength, and hope, and reinforce resources offered by the WSO staff. Long Distance Sponsors are S-Anon members committed to working the S-Anon Twelve Steps with those seeking a sponsor.
Who qualifies to serve as a Long Distance Sponsor or as Phone Support?
The WSO does not vet or endorse individual members who sign-up to serve in this capacity but as a general guideline, our experiences suggest that those who sign-up as a Long Distance Sponsors or Phone Support meet the following criteria:
- Have been in the S-Anon program for at least 1 year
- Are currently attending S-Anon meetings
- Are currently working an S-Anon program of recovery with a Sponsor
How do S-Anon members sign up as Long Distance Sponsors and Phone Support?
S-Anon members can complete this form with the requested information that will be distributed to those seeking support from the WSO. Annually, all Long Distance Sponsors and Phone Support members are asked to reaffirm their commitment to serve in this capacity. If service availability changes at any time, please update with the WSO promptly to ensure those reaching out for help are able to connect with an S-Anon member available to be of service.
