S-Ateen is a fellowship of young people, ages 12 to 19, who share their experience, strength and hope with each other so that they may solve their common problems and help others to recover. The only requirement for membership is that there be a problem of sexaholism in a relative or friend.
How S-Ateen Meetings Are Run
S-Ateen meetings are led by S-Ateen members. To ensure the meeting guidelines and Traditions are followed, there are two adult S-Anon members in each S-Ateen meeting who serve as certified S-Ateen Group Sponsors. They act as guides for the meetings – not as therapists or parent substitutes. The Group Sponsors do not give advice or tell S-Ateen members what to do. They share on the meeting topic from their own point of view and from their experiences when they were teenagers.
S-Ateen uses the S-Ateen Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous, which are suggested for our recovery. Working the S-Ateen program is not easy, but it has rich rewards. You can find serenity and even happiness, whether or not the sexaholic or other family members are in recovery.
There are no dues or fees for S-Ateen membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. We do not discuss religion in our meetings or become involved as a group with any outside organization. Our primary purpose is to recover from the effects upon us of another person’s sexaholism and to help families and friends of sexaholics.
We believe sexaholism is a family disease because it affects all family members emotionally, spiritually, and sometimes physically. We cannot change or control our parents, family members, or friends. We can detach from their problems while continuing to love them and ourselves. By applying the Twelve Steps to ourselves, we begin to grow mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
Where S-Ateen Meetings Are Held
S-Ateen meetings are available at International and Regional Conventions, local recovery events, local S-Ateen Groups, and online.
Conventions and local recovery events feature recovery, fellowship, and fun for S-Ateen members. They benefit from the shared experience, strength and hope gained from one another. S-Ateen members are welcome to attend any scheduled S-Anon meetings and open speaker meetings, in addition to the S-Ateen meetings, during local one-day recovery events and Regional and International Conventions.

What If There is No S-Ateen Meeting in My Area?
- Join an online meeting where you can connect with other teens and Group Sponsors who can help guide you through the program and support you along your journey. S-Ateen meetings are held weekly online and are safe and confidential.
- Read S-Ateen Conference Approved Literature.
- Attend local Al-Ateen meetings. While Al-Ateen is for teenagers whose lives have been affected by the family disease of alcoholism, S-Ateen members also find these meetings to be very helpful and supportive, providing a solid introduction to Twelve Step recovery.
- Attend local S-Anon meetings. As a part of the S-Anon Family Groups, S-Ateen members willing and interested in seeking recovery from the effects of sexaholism are welcome to attend S-Anon meetings.
