In August 2025, the S-Anon Board of Trustees approved the following language to be added to the S-Anon/S-Ateen Service Manual:
We believe sexaholism is a family disease because it affects all family members emotionally, spiritually, and sometimes physically. While young people ages 12–19 are welcome to attend any S-Anon meeting, they are encouraged to attend S-Ateen meetings, a recovery program under the umbrella of the S-Anon fellowship, specifically designed to create a secure environment where adolescents can share their experiences and hear experience, strength, and hope from members closer to their own age. These meetings are led by certified S-Ateen group sponsors, who receive specialized training and meet specific criteria to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants.
While Tradition Three states that anyone may attend S-Anon meetings if they identify with the problem of sexaholism in a relative or friend, it is important to recognize that S-Anon meetings may include some topics and discussions to which younger attendees may be less likely to relate. Therefore, S-Ateen meetings remain the suggested recovery meetings for young people.
