S-Anon Stories: Experience, Strength, and Hope for Those Affected by the Legal Consequences of Another’s Sex Addiction.
From the booklet’s “Introduction” on page 1:
The family members of sex addicts who have faced legal consequences because of their addiction may feel that they are different from other S-Anon members. … The Fifth Tradition of S-Anon refers to “welcoming and giving comfort to families of sexaholics.” We can expand our understanding of the many ways sex addiction can affect families by hearing the stories and perspectives of those of us who have been affected by legal issues involving another person’s sexaholism. This understanding can better prepare us to welcome and comfort all those who come to S-Anon.
S-Anon is a program of recovery for those who have been affected by someone else’s sexual behavior—whether or not that behavior was illegal. The inclusion of stories from members who have been affected by another’s illegal sexual behavior is not to approve or justify the behavior described, but rather to honestly reflect the wide range of painful circumstances that lead people to seek recovery in S-Anon. Those affected by someone who has engaged in illegal sexual behavior deserve a safe place to heal without judgment. Our hope is that these stories help members feel less alone and more empowered to seek their own path to recovery and healing, guided by their Higher Power and supported by the S-Anon fellowship.
We want to be clear that S-Anon does not condone, excuse, or minimize any illegal or abusive acts. This publication is not intended to offer legal, clinical, or professional advice. We do, however, affirm that safety is paramount, and that members take the actions they deem appropriate to keep themselves and those for whom they are legally responsible safe.
