The trusted servants of S-Anon’s Board of Trustees (BOT) devoted the majority of their September 2024 monthly board meeting to reviewing motions for funding new and expanded financial outlays for the 2025 Fiscal Year Budget, and the majority of their November 2024 meeting to discuss and approve the 2025 operating budget for S-Anon International Family Groups, Inc. We are including an overview copy of the 2025 budget for you, and the S-Anon Board of Trustees Treasurer would like to take a moment to discuss some of the highlights.
To budget 2025 Literature Sales and Seventh Tradition Contribution income, we averaged the historical 2021 through 2024 amounts. Sales of our literature bound and electronic books surpassed $100,000 for the first time in S-Anon History in 2024! The majority of S-Anon’s revenue continues to be generated by our Literature Sales.
The fellowship has continued to generously send contributions. I want to continue to express my, the Finance Committee’s, and the BOT’s gratitude for the fellowship’s continued incredible Seventh Tradition contributions.
The 2024 international convention generated member contributions, and another international convention is planned for July, 2025. The World Service Office (WSO) Technology Support Team will be recording the S-Anon breakout sessions and speakers at the 2025 convention. Recordings from other S-Anon recovery events are already available for purchase in the S-Anon literature store. You can find our available recordings here.
Changes and other items of note for the 2025 budget:
We continue to account for projected literature production and distribution expenses in Cost of Goods Sold (COGS), which includes the cost to format and print literature and fulfill literature orders. The 2025 COGS contains expenses for the new book, Into the Light (a compilation of S-Anews articles), which we hope to publish in the fourth quarter of 2025. We included funding to print our new booklet, S-Anon Stories: Experience, Strength, and Hope for Those Affected by the Legal Consequences of Another’s Sex Addiction, in the third quarter of this year. The 2025 budget accounts for reprinting Reflections of Hope and S-Anon Twelve Steps bound books, and in 2024 our new book Along the Journey, a history of S-Anon’s founding, became Conference Approved Literature and is now available at in the online store.
Funds continue to be included for the ongoing replacement and upgrading of some of the equipment at the WSO. The budget includes a provision to have a part-time paid special worker as the Chairperson of the WSO Technology Support Team to help S-Anon best utilize technology at the WSO. In 2025, we also added a new Literature and Intellectual Property Coordinator paid special worker. Also, a small amount of funding for BOT continuing education has been included in the 2025 budget.
The 2025 Budget contains funds for a strategic consultant to work with the BOT in helping the board transition to a more strategic role in serving the S-Anon fellowship as it matures, as well as in the development of board training material. Funds are included for the BOT to meet with the strategic consultant in Dallas, TX, for an in-person gathering on Wednesday, July 23rd, 2025. This is the day prior to the BOT’s Face to Face annual meeting on Thursday, July 24th, while we are gathering as an S-Anon family for the “Surrender, Deep in the Heart of Texas International Convention on July 25-27, 2025. The BOT is utilizing a portion of the Retained Earnings for this project.
According to the S-Anon International Family Groups, Inc. Bylaws and the World Service Conference Charter, the BOT is tasked with ensuring a Prudent Reserve is set aside as a safety net in case of emergency or financial stress. Currently our Prudent Reserve is meant to provide for six months of operating expenses (calculated by dividing total annual expenses over the most recent two years by four). Our Prudent Reserve account has been fully funded by strong literature sales and Seventh Tradition contributions, and our Retained Earnings account has continued to increase.
Please consider serving beyond your local groups by reaching out to the committee chairpersons of the BOT Standing Committees to find opportunities to serve the fellowship as a trusted servant in the role of committee member. You can find more information about the vital services provided by the various Standing Committees in our S-Anon/S-Ateen Service Manual. I have found volunteering as a member of the Finance Committee, and then eventually as the Treasurer/Finance Committee Chairperson, has greatly expanded my personal recovery and growth. And I have had the opportunity to meet and serve with so many incredible S-Anon members, beyond the group level, by serving the S-Anon Fellowship.
Thank you,
Dawnielle A.
