The Serenity Prayer is such a comfort for me. When I say this prayer I like to add, “Higher Power, show me your will and give me the power to do it. Help me know that by helping myself, I help my family.”

Working the S-Anon program and living the spiritual principles of the Steps have given me courage to change many things. I now accept my wife for who she is – a sexaholic – and I can let go of the shame of being a victim. I am more aware when my trust has been violated, and I am better able to make healthy choices for my children and me. The slogan “Live and Let Live” reminds me to accept my wife’s efforts to show her love instead of trying to get her to show me love the way I want her to. By working with my sponsor, I am better able to take care of myself, regardless of what my wife is doing or not doing.

Now I am able to find the courage to change the things I can. I can walk away from another’s destructive behavior. I have the tools to detach with love and compassion, and I let God be in charge of whatever changes might be needed. Today, I allow others to follow the path they believe they need to take, and I find comfort for myself, regardless of their choices.
