Dear Fellow S-Anon Members,
After suffering for many years from the effects of sexaholism without knowing the disease had a name, I found S-Anon. There I discovered people who had experiences similar to mine and who had found a better way of life. After a while, I wanted to “shout from the rooftops” about the gifts of S-Anon, because I felt so many people could benefit from our program of recovery if they only knew about it.
I vowed to do what I could to carry the message, while respecting Tradition Eleven: “Our public relations policy is based on attraction, rather than promotion…”. At first, I was confused about the difference between attraction and promotion. Then I learned that promotion is like “selling,” where promises and pressure tactics are used to convince someone they need something, in this case S-Anon recovery. In contrast, attraction does not use any means of persuasion. We live our recovery and let the results speak for themselves. Of course, not everyone has the opportunity to see how our individual lives have improved, so we seek to make information about S-Anon available to all who might want help, including “helping professionals” and the media. The intention of Tradition Eleven is to keep us anonymous as individuals, not to keep the S-Anon program itself anonymous.
It is vital that those in need can find S-Anon.
I currently serve as the Public Information and Outreach Committee (PIOC) Chairperson, and part of the PIOC’s role is to help increase awareness of S-Anon. We have an outreach guide available for groups, but it is also important to have an effort at the organizational level. Over the past two years, the PIOC has been developing a social media presence for the S-Anon World Service Office (WSO) on Instagram and TikTok, under the profile @sanon_wso. We are always looking for more volunteers on the PIOC who have experience in digital marketing, video creation, and social media campaign implementation. If you think you might be interested in joining us, please email me to learn more at pioc@sanon.org.
I encourage S-Anon members to contribute to the WSO in keeping with Tradition Seven. By supporting our fellowship, you not only keep the office running, but you also support other administrative functions of S-Anon. My hope is that as our fellowship and resources grow, we can increase the reach of our outreach efforts to make S-Anon available for all who need it. Contributions to the WSO can be made online at http://www.sanon.org/donate or http://www.paypal.me/sanonwso, on Venmo at @sanon_wso, or via postal mail to S-Anon WSO, P.O. Box 17294, Nashville, TN 37217.
In grateful service,
Michelle G., Public Information and Outreach Committee Chairperson
