Did you know that S-Anon International Family Groups, Inc., is guided by a volunteer Board of Trustees?

As a non-profit organization, S-Anon is required by law to maintain a Board of Trustees (BOT), but the function of this group is more than to just check a box for the Internal Revenue Service. The BOT is responsible for making administrative, legal, and financial decisions for the fellowship of S-Anon and performs some of the following functions:

  • Serves as guardian of S-Anon’s Twelve Traditions and Twelve Concepts of Service
  • Provides guidance in matters of policy
  • Serves as custodian and guarantor of good management of the WSO
  • Monitors and supports the accomplishment of strategic goals of BOT Committees
  • Approves the annual budget and maintains our prudent reserve.

The work of the BOT does not stop there though! The BOT ensures the security of S-Anon’s future for the benefit of our common welfare, as well as for those who are yet to come.

We’d like to introduce you to some of the wonderful, dedicated members who are currently serving on the BOT:

Mercedes S., Board of Trustees Chair, botchair@sanon.org

Greta B., Board of Trustees Secretary, botsecretary@sanon.org

Dawnielle A., Board of Trustees Treasurer, bottreasurer@sanon.org

Lindsay W., World Service Office Executive Director, executivedirector@sanon.org

Julie S., Literature Committee Chair, lc@sanon.org

Robin A., Public Information & Outreach Committee Chair, pioc@sanon.org

Jeanne H., World Service Conference Committee Chair, wscc@sanon.org

Heidi D., International Convention Committee Chair, icc@sanon.org

Pam M., Southwest Regional Trustee, southwestrt@sanon.org

Cheryll S., Eastern Central Canada Regional Trustee, eastcentralcanadart@sanon.org

Brenda Y., Southeast Regional Trustee, southeastrt@sanon.org

Lynne A. Northwest Regional Trustee, northwestrt@sanon.org

We are looking to add more members to our roster! Could this be the year that you step up to serve as a member of the Board of Trustees?

According to the BOT Bylaws, the BOT is comprised of up to 20 positions, but S-Anon members currently only fill 12 of those positions. Below are the current vacant BOT positions:

Board of Trustees Co-Chair

Archives Committee Chair

S-Ateen Committee Chair

Policy and Service Communications Committee Chair

Western Canada Regional Trustee

Midwest Regional Trustee

West Regional Trustee

Northeast Regional Trustee

Over the years, some members have shared that a tipping point in deciding to serve the S-Anon fellowship beyond the group level started with the realization that “someone” must have written our literature or answered the newcomer phone calls. From there, they came to a humble understanding that the goal of carrying the message of recovery is entirely dependent on an organized structure. How else could we ensure that S-Anon will continue to be available to serve our members in the years to come?

Would you like to know more information about the responsibilities, requirements, and qualifications to serve in a Trustee position? Here are some resources to help you gain a better understanding of each role:

  • S-Anon/S-Ateen Service Manual
  • Member Site: Standing Committees of the Board of Trustees
  • Serving as a Regional Trustee Service Literature

If you’d like to speak with someone further about serving on the S-Anon Board of Trustees, please email sanon@sanon.org. Thank you for considering this vital service to our fellowship.
