Dear S-Anon Members,
In my family of origin, I did not know how to practice being self-supporting nor could I identify my feelings or express them in a healthy way. I was emotionally incapable of caring for myself so I unknowingly sought out partners and friends to care for me. I built my foundation – much like the foundation of a house – upon things, people, places, and situations, and depended on them for stability and safety.
Then I discovered sexaholism in my life. When I learned I was married to a sex addict, the false foundation I built on another person instantly crumbled, and I had nothing to ground me. I sought and found help from outside professionals, but they didn’t help me fully address my problems. I heard about S-Anon and went to my first meeting, and in the first ten minutes, I knew… I was home. Over time and with a lot of program support, I built a new and stronger foundation based upon the Twelve Steps of S-Anon and our program principles.
This life-giving fellowship saved me from the devastating effects of sexaholism. S-Anon has given me a healthier and more loving way to live as I continue to navigate the stormy seas of life. Today I am better equipped to take care of myself and my responsibilities. S-Anon and Tradition 7 help me continue to learn what it means to be “fully self-supporting.” By using the tools of the S-Anon program, I can practice pausing to listen to my inner guidance to show me the way forward, and I can remember I always have choices and I am not helpless.
In S-Anon, the spiritual practice of being fully self-supporting is much like building a stable foundation. S-Anon is only supported by member contributions within the fellowship, and it is this support that allows S-Anon to remain focused on carrying the message to all who are affected by the family disease of sexaholism. Three times a year, the S-Anon World Service Office (WSO) sends a Special Appeal to the fellowship asking for additional contributions to help generate income for the WSO that directly supports the day-to-day operations and planning for the future of S-Anon, as a whole.
Will you consider participating in this Special Appeal, by giving any financial contribution, large or small, to help S-Anon continue to be fully self-supporting and to carry the message of hope, healing and love? Contributions can be made online at www.sanon.org, or through PayPal at paypal.me/sanonwso.
Thank you for your service.
With a grateful heart and in service,
Amber E., S-Anon member in recovery
