After making the tough decision to postpone the 2020 World Service Conference (WSC), the World Service Conference Committee (WSCC) began planning for the 2021 18th Annual World Service Conference (WSC). As we started planning, we understood we would be preparing for an unforeseeable future, and we agreed last minute pivoting from an in-person meeting to a virtual meeting could be difficult for our all-volunteer service structure.
After much consideration, the WSCC decided well ahead of time to hold the 2021 WSC virtually to mitigate the uncertainties. We conducted multiple surveys, offered WSCC virtual office hours, and gathered for additional committee meetings to ensure that we could make the best decision. We decided the WSC would be held virtually on Saturday, July 24, 2021, and because a significant number of motions were submitted, we made some minor adjustments to our traditional meeting format.
Committee Reports
To keep the WSC meeting in the traditional one-day format, the customary question and answer period held for all WSC members regarding Standing Committee Reports will be conducted electronically. These reports and the subsequent question and answer correspondence will be included in the WSC Summary Packet.
Observers at the WSC
Undertaking the planning of a virtual WSC presents unfamiliar challenges, one of which was opening attendance up to observers. After much discussion and consideration, the WSCC has decided that the 2021 WSC will not be open to observers due to certain technical limitations.
WSC Summary Packet
After every WSC, the World Service Office (WSO) publishes a detailed WSC Summary Packet including minutes from the proceeding. All motion results will be published on the Member Site, member.sanon.org, and a WSO Update article will notify the fellowship when these items are available for review. Areas represented by an Area Delegate or Regional Trustee can also expect to be contacted directly by their representative for a summary of motion results.
